Question

my hp g3010 scanner fails to start

Jan 3, 2013 11:41PM PST

my hp g3010 scanner started giving trouble in that it wouldn't start in response to any of the 4 buttons on the front being pressed a couple of weeks ago so i eventually did a complete un-install, connected a new data cable and re-installed following the instructions line by line. i re-booted the computer and as soon as i pressed the far left button, the following message came up on screen ... "An error occured communicating with the scanning device. Please ensure that the scanning device is properly connected and try again."
the connections were double -checked and the exercise was re-done. after the 6th. attempt with the same result coming on-screen each time, i am at a total loss as to what the problem is.
previously to this, the scanner has performed perfectly, and hasn't been dropped or knocked. i am running windows xp.
can anyone help me please? i'm a bit desperate.
thank you in anticipation ...
michael.

Clarification Request
Did you try it on another PC?

And to save folk from asking, "XP" is rarely seen today. I bet you are running XP SP2 or XP SP3. "XP" has some limitations.

Actually, I have to correct you ... xp is still used by the majoriy of business companies and by private operators simply because it works well.
I run xp sp3 without any problems but this wasn't why I posted my problem.
My scanner worked extremely well up to a couple of weeks ago and I'm quite sure that the problem wasn't caused because I wasn't running Vista (too controlling which was one of the reasons why MS quickly brought out Win7 followd by Win 8.
Whatever the reason, I know my xp is fine with my scanner ... it's not the reason why my scanner is having problems.
Thanks for your obversations anyway ... sadly, they didn't help.

Good luck.

"XP" the one without the service packs is RARELY seen in any office I've been in since about 2003 so that's a decade and not one "XP". I've seen XP Sp1, Sp2, Sp3 but only XP when it's a fresh install.

Thanks for the correction but how does this help? I had hopes you would add what version of XP and what service pack since "XP" is not enough today. Save others by supply all the small details.

I'd test it on another PC next.

bob, sorry if there's been some misunderstanding re. xp. there are still millions who use it though i obviously don't know the folk you know who don't use it. mine is v2002 and as perviouslt said, i use sp3 with it.. i've had the scanner for abot 4 or 5 years and working with xp etc, have never had any trouble. i don't believe the problem is because i still have xp and not w7.
anyway, gtg ... thanks.

When it comes to technical issues we have to be very exact in the details. Here, if you tell me XP, I have to ask which one and what SP level.

It appears you want to debate "XP" and not work on your issue.

Good luck,
Bob

Typos are intentional.

It's just for humor.

PS. Just need to keep it clear.

When we discuss problems, details like version of XP are needed. I guess your new tech may dismiss the need for details but eventually they learn.

Re: scanner problems

If it doesn't work on another PC either (you might have to find a PC with XP SPx to install your current driver) I'd try another scanner. Hardware can fail. And until it fails, quite often it works perfectly.

thanks for the tip to try on another computer ...
i'll see if i can get it to work on the laptop and let you know.

on the other point ... the original problem was to do with the scanner and not to debate xp ...
i have no problem with xp at all so perhaps i'm on the wrong site to ask for scanner help.
