My GiG 2008 DOdge Nitro....Help Please

Oct 4, 2008 9:07AM PDT

Hey,

I have a Dodge Nitro 08. I am trying to copy songs onto My Gig Stereo. I don't have a problem doing it, but none of the song names are on there, some times it lists them when you put a CD in, but other times when you copy it onto the hard drive it does not come up. I heard that grace notes are often updated. I have only received one update disk since purchase, I just want to know how I can get my song names onto my gig.. Any help or suggestions greatly appreciated... I have looked all over for help and I can't find any info...thanks

What is the source for the songs you are copying into your Nitro? Are you using a CD that has songs that you downloaded? If so, are they songs downloaded from a source like iTunes that will send it's metadata (titles, artist, etc.) along with the download, or is the source from non-paid sources that may not send the data? What happens when you use a commercial CD to import into your car? If your car's system does not access the data from a commercial CD, then there is something whacky with your car's system. If your song sources ARE from paid download services, what are you using to burn a CD? I use iTunes to burn CDs, and on my wife's Acura, the stereo shows the song names, but it doesn't show artist properly. For some reason the naming convention uses for Artist name and Song Tile name doesn't seem to translate across into the car stereo. But, on a Toyota Avalon I recently drove, the car stereo did show both Artist and song Title, so I'm trying different things to get the same data to come across into our Acura.

CD Text

The issue actually lies with the CDs. Audio CDs can be burned with CD-Text information encoded in them which holds Artist, Album, and track information. Some commercially bought CDs also come with this information encoded in them, but there's not really a sure fire way to know. When a CD is inserted into the MyGIG system, the system uses CD-Text info to tag the ripped files.

If you're burning your own discs at home, make sure that you enable CD-Text in your burning software. In iTunes 8, you can find the checkbox in the Burn Settings menu when you click the Burn Disc icon in the lower right corner. In other software, such as iTunes 7 or Roxio software, it may be hidden in the Preferences menu.
