My files dont stay in the order I want them

by Addz / May 13, 2006 1:27 AM PDT

I'm having trouble with my windows folders that i keep my mp3s/documents in. I've un-checked all the options on the 'Arrange icons by..' menu (Name/Auto Arrange etc) so i can drag the icons into the order i want them.

Now everything is fine and dandy for a while until all of a sudden and without warning all my files revert back to alphabetical order. When this happens all the options are still un-checked on the 'Arrange icons by' menu so i dont know why my PC keeps reverting the folders back to alphabetical order.

Im using Windows XP and only have about 2 GB of hardrive space left but i dont imagine that would be the problem?

Addz, Start>Control Panel>Folder Options, under the View tab checkmark "Remember each folder's view settings", click Apply/OK.

One more thing...

Aside from what's already been mentioned, I'd like to suggest one other Microsoft's TweakUI. Install/run it, expand Explorer, and select Customizations. By default there is a limit to how many folders customizations are remembered for, so if you cross that limit older preferences will be deleted to make room. You can adjust that number using TweakUI, which should solve the problem.

Hope this helps,
