Hey i recently got an external hard drive case for my old hard drive. I already copied everything off it. but then i wanted to format it because it was in 3 partitions and i wanted a back up drive but i accidentally went though and deleted everything including the folder called :windows with all the .sys files. so now my external drive wont register and i cant find it let alone format it.Any one know how to fix this problem?

Re: external hard drive

You can't delete the whole Windows folder from the c: in a Windows XP installation. And there's no need for any Windows folder on a external hard disk, so whatever you delete there isn't important.
So it's not clear what you did. And so it isn't clear how it can be fixed either.

And a detail for when you've fixed it: you can't format a drive. You partition a drive and you format a partition. Use Disk Manager in Windows XP for that.

Hope this helps.

Are you sure the files you deleted where on the external?

You should be able to do anything you want with the external drive. Go to the manufacturer's web site and get their drive software. They usually provide a utility to reformat the drive for use to make it like new again. If that does not work, give details on what you really did before you got this far.
BTW: make sure you pick the drive in the external case to format
