MY external 2.5" drive won't show up in My Computer.

Jun 1, 2007 9:50AM PDT

My problem is that my external HDD shows up in the Safely Remove Hardware area as a Mass Storge device but it won't appear in the My Computer screen. It had previously [worked] but in an attempt to eliminate residual system files (it used to be a C:/ drive in my old laptop) I wrote zero's to the thing. I suppose that was a bad idea seeing as it basically disabled the drive but is there a way to get my machine to recognize it again? It spins up and everything it just won't show up as a letter drive.

System I'm running: Dell XPS M1710 w/Windows XP
HDD in question: 2.5" Toshiba drive inside an external USB enclosure.

Could elaborate more on the steps I need to perform? Is this done inside Windows or before it boots up?
