Since ''Restore'' doesn't help, can you . .

1. Understand fully the section titled, "Using System File Checker" in the TechNet article "Chapter 27 - General Troubleshooting" concerning the use and troubleshooting strategy with this utility. In addition a very good article on the TechAdvice site is "SFC." Heed the warning described in the article "System File Checker Tool Extracts Incorrect File Versions (Q192832)."

2. The article [Q186157] states that during the installation of a new program (including Win98), files on your hard disk may be detected and replaced with older versions, and describes the use of the Version Conflict Manager. If a newer version of a file is detected by Win98 Setup, a version conflict occurs. Prior to Win98, most installation programs (including Windows 95) prompt you to either keep the existing file or overwrite the file with the older file. When you install Win98, this prompt does not appear and newer files replaced by Win98 Setup are automatically backed up to your hard disk for compatibility purposes.

Do you have the program SafeGuard Pop-up Blocker installed onto your system? If you do, uninstall it. Also create a blank REG file and insert the following lines.

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\explorer\Browser Helper Objects\{6CDF3C49-20E6-48d7-811B-9F5DD17F1D90}]

After you have done this run the REG file to insert the information into the Registry and Reboot your computer. This will remove all references to the bad DLL that is registered in your system. The bad DLL is located in the WINDOWS/SYSTEM folder and is named SFG****.DLL. The asterisks represent different numbers and characters associated with the file because they are different on each computer.

Good luck

I have tried this on at several computers and it has solved all of my problems that I have had with the same problem.

I have been having this same problem. I did have pop-up blocker on the computer, and I just uninstalled it. Could you describe how to create and run a reg file? Thank you for the help!

create a blank text file. Right click on the desktop and click new text document. Change the name of the document to say "Explorer Fix.REG" yes you want to change the extension of the document. Now right click on the file ad click EDIT. Insert the copied information into the .REG file and double click on it. Insert the new information in to the registry.
