"My Docs" question

May 28, 2005 3:27AM PDT

Is there any way to get rid of Window's tendency to place sub-folders like "My Photos" and "My Videos" and "My Data Sources" in my "My Documents" folder?

I never used Windows XP's default location for the My Docs folder, because I didn't like seeing those. Instead, I placed all of my personal files in a second HD, in the directory F:\My Documents.

Last week, I used Tweak UI to change the location in the reg, so that I could use the "My Documents" shortcut in the open/save dialog boxes, and get to the F-drive location.

Now those stupid subfolders have begun appearing in my Windows safe-haven! Any advice?

Just hide them.

There is a "Hidden" directory attribute for those that don't like such entries.

Do you mean...

Do you mean that I should make them hidden files? (Right-click, properties, check 'hide')?

I don't know if that will work, because I have all the folders set up to view hidden files...Don't like Gates bliding me and all.

I guess I wouldn't mind it so much, if I actually had a use for the folders...But I store photos, music, and other multimedia in other files. If I wanted a photos folder in the "My Docs" folder, I would put it there... And it's not like these folders that MSFT have put in are all that special. I can make ANY folder do what they do...Thumbnail photo shots in the "My Pictures" folder? No big deal...

Windows isn't for everyone.

It's just usable. I tend not to give such nuances a second thought and keep using the machine.
