Question

My desktop stopped running but is turned on,

by wyboojer / July 13, 2014 8:43 PM PDT

I have a 5 1/2 year old custom pc which has been running well for most of its life.i have always spent a lot of time keeping it clean and well maintained.i am using Win 7 home prem 64 bit so.
I recently moved. After moving the pc was working as well as usual, but I had to install a PCI wireless adapter to connect to the internet which I did yesterday. After the installation I booted it up normally and used it throughout the rest of the day.
Last night I shut it down as I do every night. I didn't bother to stay in the room to see it actually shut off because it always does.
This morning when I went in to turn it on the power button light was still on and several other lights...keyboard,monitor etc were also still on,but the pc itself was NOT making it's usual quiet humming noise like it usually does. I tried to simply turn it off via the power button, and also by the on off switch on the back of the box without success! So now I'm sitting here with a desktop that won't turn off,but also won't run and I have no clue why or how to fix it.
I wonder if it has to do with some sort of hibernation or sleep function but I doubt it.I am going to pull the power cord to see what that does, could sure use some help on this problem!
Thankfully I have my wife's iPad to connect to this forum. Thanks for any help!

I've never known a PC that wouldn't loose power when the rocker switch on the back of the cabinet is clicked to the off side?

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
