This is usually not a hardware failure.

Since it's Windows 2000, I would type the failure message WITHOUT TYPOGRAPHIC errors into google.com or see how others here fixed it.

Again since this is not a hardware failure you should post in the Forum that matches your OS and maybe the Computer Help or Newbies if you feel your skill level needs a little more step by step instruction.

To help them out be sure to indicate all that is asked in the Forum Note as well as if you have the CDs to restore the OS.

with a windows system disk

or a friends, you can do a repair.

With the recovery disk you can restore to original purchase state. These are often available on e-bay.

With Knoppix (google it), you can see if you can read the hard drive from a CD bootable LINUX utility and you can salvage your files.

You can hook up the drive as a slave drive on another machine and access it, possibly to restore or repair or just to get your important files off.

Then you need to find out why it got corrupted of which there are many possibilities.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
