Question

My computer won't boot up with 2 monitors connected

Mar 18, 2020 9:20PM PDT

My friend just replaced my RAM,CPU and MOBO without uninstalling anything, but things ran just fine when the he booted up the system. But when i brought my PC at home things starts getting weird. My PC wont boot when my two monitors are plugged in to my GPU, GPU just wont power up and its the only one not lighting among all other parts. (FANS,RAM etc) and im getting debug leds at the bottom right of the mobo. Its the led for CPU and DRAM lighting up. But, when i tried to remove the Display Port, the leds turned off and then my pc starts to boot. Im just wondering, whats causing the problem, since im still able to use my 2nd monitor without a problem after my pc booted up. Already hired a computer technician and he already formated my pc and installed the necessary drivers. Any idea whats going on? Heres another thing, if i use the other monitor (the one with Display Ports) first im still getting the red leds on the bottom and my pc wont boot but when i use the other monitor to boot (the one with DVI cable) the lights cleared up and then my pc started booting. Already checked the bios, gpu driver etc and its up dated. Please help

Apparently your friend didn't reinstall Windows, which is a necessity after changing the motherboard and the CPU. Luckily, you found a more knowledgeable tech to help you.

If I understand the situation well, it's the Display Port software or hardware that's blocking the boot. Are you sure the tech installed not only the right drivers for the GPU, but also (and first) the motherboard drivers?

Things you can try:
- install the latest BIOS from the makers site
- new install of Windows
- install all drivers from the makers site according to instructions
If still no luck, contact the customer service of the motherboard maker.

To check for hardware errors, try if both monitors work when booting from a Linux disc or stick (free to make).

Time to ask the motherboard maker for a fix.

I ran across this with a board (don't remember which one) and it would not boot when the display was on displayport. Changed motherboards. Be aware it can also be the GPU so swap these out to other models if you can.
