General discussion

My computer keeps dropping wireless connection.

Feb 7, 2011 11:31PM PST

Firstly I am not familiar with computer, so please explain as if you were explain to an armature.
Anyway, I got two net books which are connected to the internet wirelessly by NET GEAR.
One is SAMSUNG N130 with AVG Security (I think Windows firewall is off)<----I have just checked to see whether it is running however it says ICS(pls remember I am an amateur) can not be started because was stopped or something but I think I've stopped it running when AVG was installed on this.Anyway I have not got any problem with this machine.
The other is Samsung N140...this one has got Spyware terminator(quite annoying because asking ''ALLOW'' / ''DENY''so often), Windows firewall is running.(I can see the small key lock icon and firewalled on wireless network part.)
this computer keeps losing the connection which is really annoying.
I thought the problem was the firewall running(my n130 NOT shown firewalled and key lock icon) and keeps my samsung dropping the connection...so I turned it off, now I can not see any key lock icon and firewalled. seems to be running better though lost once and came back shortly....what is it?
AM I doing right?
DO I need windows firewall with spyterminator.(If I do need, it might start losing connection again and again though I need you to tell me what has got to do with the connection....)
I also would like to know what is the best free security software out there now.(I am just using Spy because my friend told me to). some said that get rid of AVG and Spyware and get AVAST or AVIRA.....
also how to delete Windows security alerts icon from the bottom of the computer(in case I can stop this running) I know the icon is gonna ask ''your computer at risk'' or something everytime I start the computer
with AVATA or something, do I still need to run windows firewall?
it is very strange that this computer is not working properly while the other is healthy.
Please advise
Thanks Guys!!

armature?

I thought the armature was part of an electric motor.

Sadly I've yet to find such an explanation for fixing wifi networking. We do have suggested router settings in the CNET Networking Forum at the top posts there but if you can't do such settings my suggestion is to call the folk that do this for you and have them change to the suggested settings and ask them about distance issues.

Agreed....for me it is still un-explainable.

If you want to try anyway.

I think the suggested router settings noted at the top of the CNET Networking Forum are about the best today.

Sure you'll get folk writing to tweak other settings but time after time the CNET suggested router settings and that note about router firmware to help most, most of the time.
