My computer just stopped being able to function!

Nov 5, 2018 4:14PM PST

I got a hand me down computer and it worked beautifully for about twoweeks then randomly just stopped functioning right, it freezes and shuts down randomly and overheats constantly despite never having that problem before i went through the works! the computer is dusted and in a clear open area and never had an overheating problem before, also when it rarely rarely works fine its screaming and lags all the time and when it freezes! it never starts back up! it just stops showing on the screen but the computer continues to be on and very loud and never actually restarts sometimes it cant even turn on it freezes on startup!!! i dont understand whats happening and i cant get any work or gaming done, i have online classes to attend to on top of my daily classes so i have no time to mess with it and i shouldnt since idk what im doing,, hopefully someone can help me, ive tried updating my computer restoring it to an earlier date tht windows deemed working (but it was the exact same) i even tried resetting the computer and reinstalling windows many many times but its in horrible condition that it cant even stay running long enough to reset and it cant restart to reinstall so it just is the same exact way. sorry im kind of ranting! Im not very computer-y so please talk simply and thouroughly id appreciate any help i can get! I'd attach my dxdiag but this forum wont let me attach a file, maybe im not noticing the option though

Clarification Request
Doesn't read like a rant.

Your first call should be to it's former owner as they know this PC. Here we have little more than what you wrote.

How about one of the more common causes after moving. Some heatsink fell off, a fan stopped working or a card came unplugged? Do you do your own PC repairs? If so, look for these common issues and tell more about this PC.

Could be heat.

Give more details. OS, make model etc. Have you cleaned with canned air and renewed thermal paste?

maybe never put through gaming paces, and you started gaming on it. Sure way t orun up the temps and burn off the remaining thermal paste. Your first step is to take off the Heatsink and Fan assembly but NOT removing the CPU. Clean it both the sink and the CPU top. Use a silver based thermal paste, and since that's conductive, be sure to NOT get it into the CPU area other than on the top where it belongs.
