Beyound the before mentioned problems, my computer properties just told me I had only 512 megs of ram. when I first started it up it said I had the 2 gigs of ram when I checked (minus the 4 megs of shared ram) The computer imediately told be there was a system error and restarted. Info I have found online about all these problems have one basis of possible resolution. A bad power supply is the only common rectification for these problems. Could it be affecting processor speed, network speed, the memory glitching, bad processor recognition, error fetching codes, ram errors?
I have seen other posts aboput fixing software issues to increase speed but this might be different. I have a Hp running windows xp home SP3. AMD athlon 64 3200+ processor, 2 gigs of ram. On board video and sound and ethernet. I little while I attempted to connect my audio to my stereo to listen to some music. I borrowd a friends audio cables and plugged them in. I immediately heard a buzz through the speakers on the stereo and quickly unplugged the adapter. it was plugged into the audio out jack in the back of the computer and in the audio in of the stereo. After hearing this sound, my pc speaker no longer worked. I have restarted my computer, checked drivers, ensured the bios had it enabled. Since that time, other problems started to "POP" up. I had a failed start with the power light indicating the need to re-seat the dimms which I did. It ran okay but not very fast. The next failed start gave the power light a failed to fetch codes. I tried starting the computer in safe mode which worked fine but start it normally and it just repeatedly gave the failed to fetch codes error. I got fustrated and restored my computer to factory specs and started fresh. Upon the first start I checked the computer properties and found my processor was not being detected correctly. right name and type but not the correct speed. I turned off computer and removed fan, and heat sink and processor. Repositioned the processor, cleaned the heat sinc and fan and restarted computer. Now the processor was detected properly. I finished installing my other programs I had and started to surf and noticed my high speed internet was far from high speed. I can only get a maximum of 56K/sec rate where i used to get nearly 800. I have tested the connection with my wifes computer and the problem is not with the modem. My computer is getting slower and slower. I routinely run a tuneup program and delete history, cache temp files and just about everything I always did. Nothing works.... It just loads slowly, web pages load like I was on dial up, my graphics is no where smooth as it was playing games... Anyone have any clues?
