my computer crashes

May 28, 2005 7:02AM PDT

i just bought a new computer and it has windows xp, but recently it starts to crash a lot, my screen turns suddenly blue and says that the cause is some software or hardware that is not installed good, and that i should restart the computer.
Can anybody tell me, why is this happening, can somebody give me a solution?

could be an installation problem.

however without more information as to exactly what message you are getting, it will de difficult to diagnose.

Is the warranty still good, if so take it back to where you bought it.

A Possibility

This may not apply if you bought this computer new off the shelf. But if you bought it from an individual who has tinkered with it, or added stuff to it; what I share may help.

I'm using an older motherboard that has 2 128Mb sticks of RAM. The RAM speed is PC100(MHz). I bought a 256Mb stick of RAM to add to it. Days later, after installing it, I started having these random blue screen of death crashes myself. Not right away, but they were totally random. At first I thought it was because of my upgrading XP Home from SP1 to SP2. I reformatted my harddrive, went back to SP1 and the problem still persisted.

Even though this new stick of RAM was a PC100 (like the others), I deduced my problem was because it was mismatched in that the 256Mb stick is non-parity and the 128Mb sticks are parity.

It has been several months now since I removed the 256Mb stick of RAM and reinstalled SP2. I am having NO crashes and NO random "blue screen of death" events.

Hope that helps.
