Sep 10, 2004 9:02AM PDT

|I have a win xp amd 2200 comp with a 120 gig hard drive. I turned it on today and it worked fine. However i walked out of the room and see that it is at the start up screen and i hear a voice coming not from my speakers but inside the computer sayin there may be a problem with your hard drive. I tried to put in the restore disk but nothin happened. please help!!! Is it dead?

If you have an auxiliary speaker, isn't it that whatever audio comes out of your internal speaker (if it is connected to the mother board speaker terminal), comes out of the auxiliary or external speakers? Anyway, do you have an Anti-virus installed as well as Pop-up blockers like Ad-aware and Spybot? Is your Anti-virus updated?

David,

You have ghosts or your M/B has an audiabe warning of device falure using the on-board speaker. Check your manual or at the Web site.

Get all your data off the system you wish to keep. All of todays H/Ds use Self-Monitoring Analysis and Reporting Technology (SMART). See
http://www.pcguide.com/ref/hdd/perf/qual/featuresSMART-c.html

Go to the Mnf web site of your H/D, download and run the H/D Diagonsis Utility. The message you received indicates that your H/D is failing.

Luck

David,

Unknown...

Use the drive till it rolls over and dies,
tho do not keep data on it.
