My ASUS laptop won't boot up

Sep 10, 2017 7:20AM PDT

So, I was resetting my ASUS laptop and it froze at 40 percent, then just shut down; it was in charge. Now, every time I switch it on, the ASUS logo appears, then the screen goes grey and then it goes black. This process keeps on happening again and again. I don't know what to do.

If it's Windows 10 we have an exit that usually doesn't involve ordering restore media. We can make a Windows 10 install USB stick. Google "How to use the Microsoft Media Creation Kit."

You'll have the usual work to do after Windows is installed.

If other versions, you may have to order "restore media" from Asus.

Finally, if the HDD has failed, you get to replace that and then repeat the above.

My laptop used to be windows 8, but then it updated and became windows 10. Can I still use the Windows 10 USB stick.

Yes, here's why.

Once W10 is installed and activates it's now on Microsoft's new digital entitlement program. I've used this and it's very nice in that I don't have to hunt for activation codes.

I've created the USB stick

I've downloaded everything I need onto the USB drive, now what do I do? When I plug the USB in and switch it on, there is no difference. Are there any buttons I need to press?

If you made the stick right the way (from the Media Creation Tool) all you have to press is the power key to turn tje laptop off and on again. If you made it the wrong way, it won't work at all.

Frankly speaking "downloaded everything I need" sounds like you didn't to it right. Try on another PC or laptop.

I worry about what you wrote here.

You wrote you downloaded everything. That's not what I did. I did download the media creation kit, ran it and let it create the USB stick.
