My 4K Ultra TV keeps going to screen saver at will!

Jun 18, 2015 5:23PM PDT

I have a Samsung UN55HU8550 55-Inch 4K Ultra 3D TV, which isn't quite a year old yet. It seems to voluntarily go to the sreensaver in the midst of watch TV. Is there a fix for this?

RE: Screensaver

Pat,
I'm sorry to hear about the trouble you're having! If you go to the system portion of your menu there is usually an option for the screen saver that can be turned off. If you already have this option off, I would definitely recommend making sure that the firmware is up to date on the unit. Please let me know if this helps!

Turned off the screen saver and fixed the problem
Jul 2, 2015 9:03PM PDT

Yes, I rooted out where the screensaver was and turned it off. I haven't seen it again since then. It took some looking...it didn't say anything obvious, like "screensaver", but I did find it and all is well.
Thanks,
Pat

Anyone want to say where it was found?

This is a pretty specific tv mentioned in the op. Anyone who solved this issue care to share where in the menu this was found?

Still having the screensaver problem
Nov 13, 2015 9:18AM PST

Hi.

I've got the same model HU8550. I've turned off the screensaver, I've verified that the software is up-to-date, and yet it still comes on. This happens whether I am watching cable, DVD, or streaming media. Any other suggestions?

It was, indeed, a screen saver issue, but I had never noticed screen saver in the menu choices. When I looked again, I used the TV remote and went to "System/Auto Protection Time". This is an option that is well down the menu but when you get there you can select a length of time or say "OFF". What a relief!

Same Problem After Watching Netflix
Feb 18, 2016 5:08PM PST

Mine does the exact same thing. It seems to happen after watching Netflix. I went to the system menu option and noticed it was set for 2 hours before screensaver would come on. This is not something I manually set. The screen saver kicked on almost exactly 2 hours after I finished watching Netflix two days in a row. I wonder if there is something in the Netflix app that is triggering this feature on.

I have the same problem.

After watching Netflix, I too have the same problem. Two hours later, screen saver comes on. I hit the Enter button and it comes back on. But two more hours and up it pops. Seems to happen anytime I use the Hub button and watch something from the Hub.

Always.

Always call in bugs. Samsung won't know to fix unless you call in and they'll check firmware version and settings. If they can't fix it, then you return the defective model.

Finally got it

There an option in the settings to reset smart hub. I tried everything else here and it didn't work. I reset smart hub and no longer have the issue. Good luck!

Caused by an app for me
Jul 27, 2016 11:32PM PDT

I had a similar issue using an app for another Australian streaming provide called 'Stan'. I got so frustrated I ended up starting a chat session with Samsung support. After ruling out some initial stuff I found out that the issue was caused by another Australian app called 'ABC iView'. Even when using another application this app caused the screen saver to get activated. I then reinstalled 'ABC iView' and the problem disappeared. Thought I would post something here since I couldn't find anything online about it. Not sure how applicable it is to everyone else, but presumably if an Australian app can cause this there are probably some apps elsewhere causing it.
