Must I phone Microsoft or is there

Aug 22, 2007 4:15AM PDT

a set procedure to upgrade to Vista on a new PC after it was already installed it on a HP AMD 3200 and activated.

The computer it was installed it on is HP AMD 3200 and it runs to slow with Vista and they paid $156. for Vista Premium and activated it on the HP 3200.

Now they want to use Vista and would like to switch it to a new computer that is way way faster.

Anyone know how I switch it or are they just out $156. with Vista on a PC that can't handle it.

Assuming it's not an OEM copy...

Have them remove Vista from the one computer, usually by deleting the partition it's installed to. They can then install Vista on the second computer. The process will complete as before, but after installation activation should fail and display a toll-free phone number along with a code. They'll need to take a few minutes to brief the Microsoft representative on what happened, at which time the rep will 'transfer' the license over and enable them to complete the activation process.

Hope this helps,
John
