Music Program Shutdown

When I try to use Yahoo Music Engine (and often times Realplayer), it shuts down immediately when I open it. I have Windows XP SP2. I tried uninstalling both and reinstalling, same result. I made Yahoo the default player, same thing. I've run Norton AV and MS Defender, no problems found. Any ideas? Something clearly is incompatible. Any help would be very much appreciated.
