Music Download sites

Feb 9, 2006 9:35PM PST

I resent paying Apples Music Store prices, which is basically a file and is the same price or more expensive than most online CD sites and doesn't include all the packaging that goes with it. So I've been looking for an alternative download site, preferably one where you pay a monthly fee and download as much as you like. I tried Virgin and HMV but they are for PC users only, I tried a few more but had the same problem. I found one, I think it was easymusic which said Mac users could only download from there mp3 library, I wasn't sure if this meant you don't have as much choice of music or not.

Can anyone recommend a Mac and itunes compatible download site please?

Cheers,

Rich

what about downloading the songs for mac users? I can't seem to find any info about it on their site. there is no right clicking w/the apple mouse..

Mac user can still download files, just not use the AllOfMP3 Download Manager. No biggie.

Songs are pretty cheap there with a good selection and no DRM

Download sites for Mac

I'm not sure what you think you should be getting from an on-line music store, if you think that getting a "file" is not right.
easymusic offers MP3 "files" for Mac users and that is because they will not/cannot produce a Mac version of their software or use protected WMA for the PC users.
Virgin and HMV both use protected WMA which does not play on a Mac, say "Thank you Microsoft" so you are left with the other posters suggestion. Legality is a question there though.
You will still be downloading "files" though with none of the packaging you seem to want.
I know of no on-line music store that offers packaging as part of the download.
iTunes offers the file and the artwork on their downloads.
Do a Google for Free music and see what come up
