2 years ago... the TVs menu said it would display multiple signals including ntsc, pal, and secam. What it did not say is if it had a tuner built in for each particular broadcast system. I would hazard a guess and say that the tv has a tuner built into it for the country it was intended to be sold in.

Still, where is the problem ? All you will need to do is switch it to the broadcast signal you want to watch and the use an outside tuner like a cable box, vcr, satellite receiver, tivo, etc. to tune in the channel you wish to watch. A vcr now a days costs little to nothing so it's nothing to worry about.

What I would be more interested in is the POWER TRANSFORMER and the PLUG style. Does the TV have an external transformer like many LCD TVs do or is it built in. If it is built in can you change the voltage requirements with a switch on the back like you can with some audio equipment ? Can the power cord be exchanged for a different style ending ?

Lastly... if you have video tapes or dvds from france you may need to bring a vcr with you to play in that format (is it pal in france?). I had a friend come home from singapore and could not show any of the dvds he had bought (except, curiously enough, for many of the black market copies) due to the regional coding.

JMO but all this is what I would think about.
