Resolved Question

Multiplexing four LCD monitors as a single screen

Mar 29, 2015 8:01AM PDT

I have four LCD monitors and want to mount them together to become one large monitor, are there devices that will take a single input signal and split it to four outputs in this way?

Google hasn't been helpful, possibly because I didn't know the correct terminology, or possibly because this is a really stupid thing to want to do...

Awesome, hadn't considered the term "video wall", that brought up some hits. It's actually for four vga monitors but that's got me started. Thanks!

Maybe...

Yes you're right, those others are ridiculously expensive.

A four port card could potentially work, I found that exact version too and it's much more affordable. It's mostly to avoid using a projector, the problem is whether it would work for playing video. I've experienced issues on multiple desktop arrangements where the player will only render on a single screen even when the window is stretched across multiple screens. I never checked whether it was hardware or software related limitation, do you know if this arrangement could work for video?

It's a software issue.

WMP full screen will usually be on one of the screens and may not allow use of the PC on other screens. VLC Player seems to allow play of some video file on one screen and use the others for other uses.

The other video wall where the desktop is across all screens is seen a lot in ATI cards. It's all software but I can't dive much deeper for the moment.
