Question

Multiple Icons on XP

I have a client PC running XP. It is a Stand alone PC (not connected to a network to get virus over the internet)
The few icons is has duplicates it self many time over. If I delete a few it all comes back if I reboot.

Where can I start looking for a solution

What icons and where do you see them twice or more?

All the icons. 'My Computer", Recycling bin", "Galaxy icon", All of them. And not once or twice. 10 time or more

So I assume it's on the desktop, even if I don't know the galaxy icon is (https://www.google.nl/search?q="galaxy+icon" isn't really helpful for that).

Since the desktop is only a view of the desktop folder in your profile, I'd start with looking at that folder in the detail view of Explorer. Do they multiply there also after a reboot? What is the creation date/time of those copies?

Does this multiplication occur also if you boot in Safe Mode?
