Multiple Bay Hard Drive Storage

Aug 21, 2010 12:03AM PDT

Hey,

I have a mac mini (mac osx) that I essentially use as a media center. I want to add a of HD storage to it. I was thinking about getting a 5 bay or 8 bay multiple drive enclosure. But I want something lightning fast, fast enough to edit the video that I will storing on it. What product might be best (I have maybe $1000 I can spend)?

Thanks for the help...

Re: editing a video

Video editing isn't done on the drive. It's done in the RAM and in the CPU. So the speed of the drive hardly is an issue, only for the initial reading of the unedited video and the final writing of the edited one, I think.

What enclosures for the Mac did you find already, and what do their specs say about their speed?

Monster Hard Drive

Hey,

I want to buy this

http://amzn.com/B001LF40RM

I just wasn't sure it would be fast enough. I had just purchased this thing

http://amzn.com/B002VUCCV2

but it was way to slow (obviously because it was NAS and not plugged directly into the cpu.) Do you think it will work well?

Thanks

Worth a try.

For speed, however, generally SCSI is preferred. But I don't know if that would go with the Mac.
