mulitple open windows - how

when I open a second window, it closes the previous one. in w7 I opened as many windows as I wanted and stayed open until I closed.

i click google from dt and it comes up
I click nyt from dt, it comes up and google disappears
I click lifelock and it comes up. nyt disappears

If yes then you are most likely on "tablet mode". The application/s did not disappeared, it's under the new window/s. Did the icons on the task bar disappear also? It can also be turned on as well...like tablet mode.
