MTV (Molly, Tom and Veronica) Talk about the Intel vs AMD

Nov 28, 2005 11:28AM PST

comparison on Cnet. (I got locked out of the title, need longer titles).

It seems like AMD has been moving ahead of Intel for a while, but still seem to be the ugly step child. Dell (my prefered computer company) doesn't sell AMD and Apple has announced a deal with Intel, not AMD. Why not? Why aren't there more options?

I agree

Intel have been resting on their own merrits alot, and as a result have produced much inferior chips to AMD.

I have heard rumors that Dell will not take the risk to move to AMD, because Intel will refuse to supply to Dell, even if using AMD chips is only an option. Talk about unfair trade practices....

Will Intel and Apple, again Intel are trying to keep their strangehold on the market and have offered a good deal to Apple to do so.

Anyway, I agree that Tom, Molly and Veronica should talk about it.

(I don't like using MTV as an abbreviation for Tom, Molly and Veronica, people might get an exellent podcast confused with a crappy music network)

Because Intel is mean

The reason the Dell, Gateway, and most of the major makers use exclusively Intel processors is due to the preferred pricing that Intel gives them. If they were to offer AMD processors then Intel would take away the sweetheart deal that they currently have with Dell, etc.

A couple of years ago Michael Dell announced that they were going consider offering AMD processors, then backed off like a day later. Intel flexed their muscle.

I agree that AMD processors are better. So, my advice is to buy from a local source, or make your own system.
