Question

MTP devices

Aug 12, 2011 9:31AM PDT

I just got this new MP3 player at a steal. It was a Coby MP705-8GB. With a sale and a gift card I spent about $7.00.
Now, my computer is rather old and has XP SP2 and Window Media 9.It does not have a certificate of validation so I can't update everything on it...but that's cool, I thought, as I have a newer computer with all the bells and whistles, everything updated and new and Windows 7.
But all my audio files are stored on my old computer. About 250 GBs of audio books and audio drama. I collect these in MP3 format and I have no desire to transfer them all to my new computer..
I really didn't know the Coby was a MTP..which doesn't recognize the player as a usb drive but under devices as a MTP. It needs Windows Media 10 atleast to be able to transfer the files to the device via WMP..

Is there any way to make the MTP device be recognized as a usb device instead?

Why would anyone want a MTP as opposed to a usb in a mp3 player anyway.? There's far less control.
And even if I can find a program to synch it..I'd still rather prefer my old method of just sending to the MP3 device..or copy ..and be able to see exactly what's on it in the original folders..
As far as I can see..MTP devices really suck. What purpose do they have?

The answer is no.

If the Coby does not have a MSC option then it appears you need to fix that certificate issue first as without it the slightest XP problem and you get slammed into fixing without the luxury of time on your side.

Just an MP3 player

Oh well,, nothing to do about an old PC when I already have a new computer.
It's not like I'm going to buy another OS just for this MP3 player when the old computer is basically just for storage .
But Media Monkey and a few other programs do make it possible to transfer files on it. Just not convenient..
Regardless of what computer and what OS, I prefer MSC.
