msndrake 10

Nov 11, 2005 7:05PM PST

I am running a 1.5 G computer with 512 mb memory.

I downloaded mandrake 10 and made CD'S using win XP.
I have a HP 300i burner; when I try to load CD-1
it will not boot. I tried using a boot disk I had for 6.5 when it tells me to put in CD-1 I put it in the tray and the following message comes up NOT A MANDRAKE CD. WHY WILL IT NOT INSTALL?
I was running 9.2 before on my 1.0 G run ok. Now I cannot get it to set up on the 1.5 keeps asking for password but it will not let me type it in.

1 common issue

Often new users forget to burn the discs as ISO. This is necessary for a boot disc. With the 3 ISO discs in hand, load disc 1 and boot. I would skip version 10.1, I had trouble with it. Google Mandrake 10.2 (Mandriva 2005)
and download free version from your choice of mirrors. I
have been using this distro since it came out with only 1 issue I couldn't resolve. Had good luck with 10.0, but not 10.1. Hope this helps. chuck

I made the first disc bootable; would not install; stopped at the computer shop monday morning told the boss my problem and showed him your reply. He made a bootable CD-1; still would not install. He sugested we make a conversion; change the ISO image back to the
original format. converted all three discs now it installed.
Thanks for the information now I have to figur out
how to install programs I downloaded and copied to the HD.
Ill try downloading the other web site cd's later.

I have 2 discs

that I burn downloaded programs to. 1 for Windows and 1 for Linux. In fact, I download to D-drive, burn the programs to disc, then install from the disc so I know I got a good burn in case of problems later (like having to reformat). When sure, I delete from HDD.Periodically
reburn disc to toss out old programs. I keep the old disc
for a while. Hope this helps. chuck
