MSN Messenger Release 7 "blackouts"

I am using MSN Messenger 7 under Windows XP. During a voice and/or video conversation, many times I don't hear the other side for about one second or two. This happens every 10-15 seconds or so and of course if very annoying. Does anyone have an idea what could be causing this?
