Mark, I think the reference is to...

the Instant Messenger also known as Widows Messenger. To prevent competition between Windows Messenger and MSN Messenger can be a little "dicey".

What I did was rename the "Messenger" folder under Program Files to "Messenger {disabled}". That may not be the best way but works for me. Windows Messenger is difficult, maybe not possible, to uninstall as it is imbedded in Win XP. Try this Google link for some other ways:

http://www.google.com/search?q=Disable+Windows+Instant+Messenger&sourceid=mozilla-search&start=0&start=0&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official

Best of luck!

The link is primarily devoted to "Windows Messenger Service" which which is similar name to "Windows Messenger" but different situation entirely. Sorry I listed it.

Dear eilton,

-> Open up windows messenger.
-> "Tools">"Options"
-> "Preferances" tab
-> Uncheck first box, and others that apply.

Ok and exit.
