MSN Hack Chain Letter

Dec 17, 2003 2:43AM PST

Description

This silly MSN hacker threat reminds users of the severe consequences of not forwarding it to ten other email addresses. While most chain letters threaten recipients with bad luck, this one blurts a typical modern day scare ? a security compromise involving credit card and social security numbers. The authors of this hoax should not find it hard to come up with more effective variants with lines like ?not following the directions given will harm you in over 10 ways.?

A story that mentions supernatural methods of monitoring the forwarding of specific email would be more credible at this point in history. Fear of bad luck, then, should be a better rationale for forwarding chain mail than the fear of supposed MSN hackers who claim to be able to monitor email activity.

Trend Micro advices users not to forward this email or any other chain message.
