MSN crashes when opening a conversation

Feb 21, 2010 9:38PM PST

Hi all,
im running windows xp 32, and i had downloaded the latest windows live messenger (9.0 if im not mistaken).
after cleaning up my harddisk ( removing some games ) i tried logging on to msn. everything was fine untill i double clicked on a contact in my list to open a conversation, and it just crashed. i shut down msn in task manager, and tried launching ie. it didn't work. i tried shutting down my computer, and it showed a box "SysFader doesn't respond" blabla..
i really dont know whats going on, i tried installing msn version 7.0 and it works perfectly fine..
i'd really appreciate any ideas

Is it just that one contact that crashes it?

Might want to remove and reinstall Windows Live Messenger in case it didn't install correctly.

in no way, msn could've needed Rise and Fall: Civilizations at war.
Also, when i try to restore the system, it says, C:\ dun wanna because it has been shut off from system restorings, or what ever ittis, translated into english (im using the dutch version)
btw: Virus is back.. AVG found it when i started my pc..
iono if it has anything to do with the msn problem, but most likely not..

If the virus is back I'm wondering if it ever left?!?!?

Try using a program like Malwarebytes to get rid of whatever is infecting your PC.
