MSN.com problem or Panda AV remnants fouling pc?

Aug 1, 2004 2:45PM PDT

Since July 31, I've been experiencing login problems on www.msn.com, which is my home page on both I/E and Opera. When I log with I/E, I receive "Page cannot be displayed". However, when I click Refresh, I get the MSN page. On Opera, I rarely can access www.msn.com. Instead, I get an error message, "Cannot locate remote server", and I cannot click on "Reload" because it is grayed out. Also, in Opera, when I type in a URL in the address bar, the browser does not respond, when I click Enter. I called my ISP and was informed that my cable modem and transmission were okay. System Restore did not correct the problem either.

Only thing I can think of is a trial Panda AV installation, which was subsequently uninstalled a few days later on account Panda won't allow virus updates on the unpaid version after the initial one. I have a paid Panda version, which I uninstalled to try out the new version with an added security option. Since re-installing Panda AV, I have been experiencing the above problems. Went into the registry and could not delete the following values, which may be the cause of the login problems. Confused

Name: DeviceDesc
Type: REG_SZ
Data:
Panda Function Service
Panda Process Protection Driver
Panda Process Protection Service
Panda anti-virus service
Panda Preventium Driver.
Panda Preventium+ Service
Panda IManager Service
Panda File Shield Driver

Doubtful.

My MSn email dropped dead for 2 weeks. It's back and somehow different. MSn doesn't seem to "get it" that long service outages are unacceptable.

As such, the issue may be them and not you.

Bob, I think I tracked down the culprit for the MSN problem. Much as I like to blame it on MSN's bad service, it was the newly downloaded version of AdSubtract, which was causing my problems on IE and Opera. I don't know why that is, but I'm going to email their tech support department about it.

Thanks for your help.
