Question

MSIE 8-9 and Minefield Firefox 64 no connection Chrome works

Oct 24, 2011 8:14PM PDT

I had an internet outage last weekend and when it came back on Email worked but not browsers, until I tried Chrome. I uninstalled MSIE 9 and tried 8. I ninstalled Minefield and tried earlier version and nightly version: also no help. Ping does not work. I tried these with and without my VPN. Checked everything I could find on the web. I really liked Minefield but I cannot even find that now. Chrome works and it is fast, but I preferred Minefield. HELP!

That's strange.

Ping is basic functionality that is unrelated to your browser. If ping doesn't work no browser should work. So why does Chrome work?

May be the vpn

I thought so too, but I am grasping at straws. I will try it without the VPN on. No there is no proxy. It is OpenVPN and uses tunneling.Anyway, it always worked before. I am certain it is settings somewhere, but the only place I have not checked is in the attic. MY system is an i-5 with win 7 pro 64. There was a windows update right after the internet outage, but I rolled it back and still no connection. Thanks for the comment.

Just a guess.

Are you sure there's no proxys?

Open IE then go to Tools > Internet Options, then the Connections tab. Click the Lan Settings button and in the new window see if any Proxy has been set. If so, remove it.
