Re: better

Might depend on your needs.

Please provide a link to the specification page on the MSI and Asus sites, and tell more about what you find better (for example: more overclocking options, maximum memory supported bigger, AMD versus Intel support, presence of certain connections, etc).

Bad battery life?
Oct 20, 2016 8:43AM PDT

It looks spot on for a gaming laptop. If this was a run of the mill office/browsing laptop I'd agree but you seem a little off on the battery time. Gaming on battery is demanding and to get the time up to hours means double to 10 times the battery size adding pounds/kilograms to the laptop.

I like cooler running laptops. Nod to the MSI this round.

motherboards

can't find a good picture of Asus GL702, but here's the 501 and 502 respectively which are probably the same or similar motherboard.

This is the MSI motherboard.

Notice the burnout on the ASUS and that the heat from the CPU seems easily shared across to the graphics chip. The MSI however smartly has isolated the graphics chip from the CPU for heatsing/fan cooling purposes.

That might not seem like much to go on for decision, but consider if you'd owned one of these HP/Compaq laptops which also failed to keep the video chip cooled properly.

I also consider the 6 cell battery as a better buy even though "rated" less power than an overstuffed 4 cell battery.

You're a Student, Haullik! DO NOT BUY 17 INCH MODELS!
Oct 20, 2016 9:36AM PDT

I've seen that over and over where a student gets the big 17 inch laptop and in a year or two they've regretted it for many reasons.

Yes, I've heard it all from "the weight isn't an issue", "I can plug in" and the list goes on and on when they are shopping.

Later, they moan about issues down the line.

Stick to the 15.x inch sizes. You'll be glad you did.

Arghh I dont want to put a title
Oct 20, 2016 9:50AM PDT

Why did they regretted it?

I wrote a few of the reasons in my reply.

But hey, you are free to choose your path. Be aware it's well worn and at least I warned you off the 17. Let's see you back here in 2 years for an update.

I think I am blind I do not see the them.

Your opinion is important to me,so can you please give me some reasons why I shouldnt buy the 17 Model.

- Collapse -
Simple list.
Oct 20, 2016 10:16AM PDT

Weight, battery time, damage due to it being larger, more prone to damage due to size, weight and so on.

The bigger display eats that much more power so to counter with battery means we would have to add a pound of battery to offset the display. It's a vicious cycle which you can't escape.

Recap? 17 inch is fine for desktop/home use, bad for students.

Is it really that different
Oct 20, 2016 10:26AM PDT

MSI GE62VR:
383 x 260 x 27~29 mm
Apróx. 2.4Kg
MSI GE72VR:
419.9 x 287.8 x 29.8~32 mm
Apróx. 2.7Kg

Why yes it is.

In this thread, call me Tim. "I warned you."

I understand new students want the big laptop. I won't argue with you here since it's good for the PC industry since 90% of them will replace it in a year or two. Some may get Windows PC burnt and get the Apple next time!

LOVED THE VIDEO!
Oct 20, 2016 10:38AM PDT

Im not being ironic about that! ^
I decided to choose the 17 inch model because a bigger screen its better for gaming.
The dimensions doesnt seem that different..
Please explain me why I shouldnt.

Sadly I would be repeating myself.
Oct 20, 2016 10:42AM PDT

I gave the usual reasons students and 17 inch laptops are a bad mix.

Make your choice, accept it and be extra careful with your laptop. If you carry it around daily, well that's just not a good thing with the bigger laptops.

I think I've warned you enough,
Tim. The Enchanter.
