U CARPservice carpserv.exe Associated with Zoltrix modems - enables the internal modem speaker, allowing you to listen to the dial-up sounds for example

If you have a Zoltrix modem carpserv is a legitimate entry.

mobsync also appears to be legitimate.

I did this search at the link below.

msconfig startup entries

Hi Tufenuf,
What I don't understand is why it says added by Trojan and the modem I have is a Motorola.
Thanks,
Tom

Here's some info

tomron, If you notice that the Trojan entry is spelled "CARPserver CARPserver.exe" and the modem entries are spelled "CARPservice carpserv.exe".

I would think that the carpserv entry you have in MSCONFIG is for your modem even though it's a Motorola.

If you want just uncheck it in MSCONFIG and restart your computer and see if the modem is working. You may not hear the dial-up sounds and if you want to hear them just go back into MSCONFIG and checkmark it again and restart your computer. It won't hurt to try.

P.S. What you are saying is their is no spyware, trojan,or whatever.

Are you having any problems?

tomron, Are you having any problems with your computer? As I stated uncheck the carpserv enty in MSCONFIG and restart your computer. If the modem doesn't work after doing this just go back into MSCONFIG and checkmark the carpserv entry and restart your computer. It won't harm anything but if you wish to not do it just leave it as it is.

Hi Tufenuf,
I unchecked Carpserve>rebooted>then I got this message" you have the system configuration utility to make changes to the way windows start.

The system configuration utility is currently in diagnostic or selective startup mode, causing this message to be displayed and the the utility to run everytime windows start.

Choose the the normal startup mode on the general tab to start windows normally and undo the changes you made using the system configuration utility".
Do you have any idea what this means, and should I leave carpserve unchecked?
Thanks,
Tom

Here's my recommendation

Tom, If you unchecked carpserve and your modem is working fine you can leave it unchecked in MSCONFIG. As far as that message all you have to do is when it appears the next time you restart your computer just checkmatk the small box that says "do not show this etc. again" and it won't appear anymore. Doing what you did (starting in selective mode) will not harm your computer. Did unchecking the carpserve eliminate the dialup noise?

noise since I have cable. It just seemed strange that when I first checked MOBSYNC AND CARPSERVE that it indicated there was spyware, adware, and trojan.
Thanks for your help,
Tom
