MSCONFIG - Normal OR Selective Startup?

Aug 23, 2004 4:31PM PDT

Before I had my H/D reformatted, I was able to choose the Selective Startup option under Startup Selection in msconfig. Now, the setting won't stay and will revert back to Normal Startup after I restart my pc. On a few occasions, I was able to get the Selective Startup option to remain, BUT the check mark next to Load Startup Items would disappear each time after rebooting.

I have only three Startup Items under "Startup": APVXDWIN (Panda AV), zlclient (Zone Alarm Pro), and tca (The Cleaner). Am I correct to assume that I should have the radio button next to Selective Startup checked rather than Normal Startup? I notice that machine boot up time is much longer with the Normal Startup option.

I've been through this issue, and the main problem in useing MSCONFIG is that if you want to keep your changes, you must operate in the Selective mode. I think the machine will be less of a hassle by useing the Normal mode. A great free program to make these changes is "Start Man". Type "Start Man" in your search engine.
