The driver for CD/DVD is "baked in" to XP. What driver would we have to install?
The ZOMBIE failures of CD/DVD drives is rather legendary. But first remove both UPPERFILTERS and LOWERFILTERS in the registry, reboot and retest. Here's the article about where these are -> http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060
I decline to hunt down the article that matches your error and offer this article for a common issue and fix.
my stepson has pc problems, namely that his liteon combo drive 48161h (cd/dvd) has ceased playing dvds but has continued to play cd's, he told me that he is getting an error message involving mscdex.exe but thats all he's told me
I thought that mscdex.exe became extinct with the demise of win 98?
anyway i'm off to his home to reinstall driver and hope for best (DOS is an enigma to me) and I look forward to reading all your replies when I return.
many thanks to you all
