MS XP Outlook - Backup emails into CD-R disk

Jul 1, 2004 12:41PM PDT

Hi..
I tried backing up my emails into CD-RW and CD-R disks using Iomega external cd writer.

Upon completion, I could access and view the CD-RW disk, however, when trying to access and view the CD-R, i was prompted "Access is denied. You do not have the permission required to access the file D:\outlook.pst" Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

Outlook needs write access to a pst-file, and obviously it can't write to a cd-r (where files are read-only, as you can easily check in its properties).

The solution is to copy the backup to the hard disk before using it. Or, said the other way around, backup to the hard disk, and safeguard that copy op cd.

More out Outlook backup, restore and move in the Outlook Help for import and export, and especially http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=287070&product=ol2002 (How to backup, restore or move Outlook data).

Hope this helps.
