MS Word Styles will make U crazy!?!

Is there a site on the internet that does a good (and simple) job of explaining how to create custom MS Word styles and use them?

I?ve never used MS Word much, but now have to because of a project. I?m trying to format three, large technical manuals and want to standardize levels of paragraph headings (with their body text) for look and indent level.

Now, when I try to create a new style, it works once, but then I find that its name has changed later, after I add a few new styles to the list. I?m having a really hard time with MS Word?s styles. Thanks for any ideas.
