how do you delete in MS word.

I open MS word>file>tom's resume.

I get this message
"The document name or path is not valid.Try these suggestions.* check the file permissions for the document or drive .* use the file open dialog box to locate the documents.(C:\...\8T)NK3W3\Tom's MS resume.doc)

thanx,
Tom

Have tried using "Search for files and folders"?

Start> Search> left click on "Search for files and folders". In the top dialogue box titled "Search for files and folders" type tom's resume. Then in the drop down menu titled "Look in" select "My Computor" then left click on "Search Now".

Where are your documents stored? The usual place is in "my documents". Have you looked there for the resume? Have you tried doing a search using the file name?

What do you want to delete?

Something in the document? Select it and use delete-key. Or ctrl-X.
The document itself? Use Explorer for that (although it can be done in the File>Open or File>Close windows with a right click>delete).
The name in the last 4 files opened? Don't mind, it will be replaced automatically by later files. But if you persist you can set Word (tools>options) to save 0 files, than reset it back to 4 or 9 or whatever it was).

What happened is being new to MS word if I made a mistake,I would just start again and they built up.

I tried files and folder search under Tom's resums, deleted some.I open MS word>files
There are two resumes still there

If I click on them this is the locations

(C:\...\Tom's resume(word).doc)
(C:\...\ETVWHWBE\Tom's MS resume.doc)
If I search in files and folder,it says invalid folder

I noticed you can't delete in MS word

If more info is nedded let me know.

Thanx,
tom

Tom, Those File Are Already Deleted...
Jan 22, 2005 9:27AM PST

The listings you have mentioned are PREVIOUSLY opened and viewed files called "Most Recently Used Documents". When you open Microsoft Word, then click on "File" in the upper left, then click on any of the listed documents, that is simply a "shortcut" to a previously used document. IF you have deleted that document from the location mentioned in that link, then the "shortcut" will tell you that there is no such location. That's what is happening here.

In order to get rid of all the "remembered" Word documents under the "File" menu it will depend a little on which version you're using.:

On Word 2002, (YOUR version of Word would be helpful here) you can open Word, click on "Tools", choose "Options". When that loads, click on the "General" tab, then reduce the number in the "Recently Used File List" option. (Or you can UNCHECK IT entirely to eliminate all the files, then RECHECK IT to start again.)

Hope this helps.

Tom, I Would Do This...
Jan 22, 2005 11:20AM PST

...and remember, that this isn't really your resume.... It's only a shortcut to it...First, you need to make sure you know exactly where your real resume file is..probably in "My Documents", so you can access it later..Find it and remember the location.

Next, after opening Word, click on "Tools", choose "Options", then the "General" tab, then UNCHECK the box next to "Recently Used Files List", then click on OK. When you now look at the "File" menu, ALL of the menu items will be gone...Now go back in and CHECK the box next to "Recently Used File List". Now close Microsoft Word and navigate to your "resume" file and double click on it. You should now be able to see the "correct" location of your resume in the "File" menu and it will be the only one listed there....until you open more Word documents. After opening more Word documents, they also will be placed in the "Recently Used Files" section of the "File" menu.

Hope this helps.
