MS Word 2007 will not print to color printer

by korgibear / March 27, 2008 5:28 AM PDT

I recently upgraded the printer driver to the HP color Laserjet. Now Excel prints to it fine, Notepad prints to it. Word does not. When you go into the print dialog box and select the printer, Word hangs up. Word does print to the Canon B&W printer.

Both printers are physically connected to this desktop.

I have a laptop that is connected to this desktop via wireless workgroup networking. It prints to the color printer just fine within Word.

Any ideas? (Thanks in advance)

Strange.

I always thought that the different Office programs had a lot of common things (like printing) in common. But, if Excel works, apparently they haven't.

All I can suggest: back to the old driver.

Or use a workaround. Print to pdf (using any pdf-writer), then use Acrobat reader, or another pdf-viewer you prefer, to print it. You might even try the free Word viewer, that you can download from Microsoft. That's a separate program, that comes with it's own printing logic. It might just work.

I notice your comment, "Both printers are physically connected to this desktop".

What happens if you either, physically disconnect the B&W printer, or confirm from Start > Printers and Faxes that the color printer is set to default?
