MS Project - remove resources

Dec 16, 2004 5:45AM PST

The MS Project Help system is harder to make sense of than the ending of 2001: A Space Odyssey, so I'm coming to the best source -- you guys!

I have a pretty simple project laid out in MS Project 2002. We've been using temps to get this project completed, and there's been pretty high turnover. I'd like to remove the temps who aren't on the project anymore from the "Resource Names" dropdown list in the Gantt chart view. I can't figure out how to do it without completely removing their history of completed tasks, which I need to retain. I just don't want to be able to select their names (or even see them) when assigning new tasks.

Any help?

From old core memory.

Wasn't there a way to schedule a resource? That is, set the calendar for said resource so they were "on vacation" ?

Tried it

I cleared all the working hours for a couple of them but they still show up in the dropdown.

Annoying as every time I need to assign a new task, I have to scroll all the way down the dropdown list to get to the two remaining temps.

That looks like a bug...

One could say that if a resource is on vacation then it shouldn't show...

Wasn't there some option control panel to checkbox "don't show/use unavailable resources".

Remember that I used this years ago and vaguely recall all the features.

Or as Bill Gates would call it, a ''feature''

Not that I could find. I've been able to change the sorting of the resources so that the currently employed are on top; that helps a little. I checked the MS support newsgroup and the feedback there was that there isn't a way to remove the names from the dropdown. Seems silly to me but oh well.
