MS Outlook 2007 / Windows XP

Dec 12, 2010 9:10PM PST

When trying to delete multiple messages I get the response "The messaging interface has returned an unknown error. If the problem persists, restart Outlook." When re-starting Outlook I am allowed to delete just a few messages ten the error message comes back up. Can anyone help please.

Has it ever worked on this machine. Or is it a new installation of Outlook 2007?
MS Exchange or .pst-file?

Outlook error

I have been running Outlook (bundled with MS Office Standard 2007) for a couple of years without any problems. The problem started about two months ago. I can delete a few messages (average 10)after I start up the program and after I send or receive emails, then I get the error message.

Assuming it's a .pst-based Outlook, not Exchange based, I'd compact the pst-file.
