MS Office for Mac 2004 student and teacher

Jun 3, 2007 9:50AM PDT

I was checking out what people said about MS Office for Mac Student and Teacher edition, having just been told that if I wanted to, I could buy that instead of the upgrade on my old MS Office Standard Edition. I found confirmation of that but also a message saying that it has "only" four applications. Could someone tell me what, besides Word and Excel is in that edition (Power Point?) and what is missing? I really doubt that I need much of anything beyond those, but the word "only" piqued my curiosity.

Not yet convinced that I'll buy any of the MS Office suites, as opposed to NeoOffice, but if I do, it might be nice to save the difference between the upgrade and the student/teacher version.

Thanks!

jenny

Thanks, and true. I was just sooooo tired and missed the link for the comparison.

They are...

Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Entourage.

It's essentially the same package as Office Standard except that it requires you to be a "qualified educational user."

One other thing to keep in mind: Microsoft Office 2008 (Mac version) is due out sometime during the second half of this year, so you may want to hold off and purchase it then rather than spending the money now.

Hope this helps,
John

Much obliged, and I might consider the advice to wait, were it not for the fact that Office 2004 is likely to be viable for sometime to come yet, that I need an office suite now, that I'm not sure that the 2008 version will be compatible with my current Mac. That said, I am certainly grateful to you for your interest and advice.

As for having to be a student or teacher, I have heard that it isn't necessary, despite what it says at the various places that the software is sold. I haven't yet heard the definitive word on that.

Thanks again,

You *could* use the open source NeoOffice for your

immediate needs and get the soon to be released update of MS Office for Mac later - if you think you need it...

To play well with others, you merely need to "Save As..."

.doc (Word)
.xls (Excel
.ppt (PowerPoint)

And since you can open their docs without their having to "Save As" something different, they do not need to do anything special.

MS Access.

This is not because it is a cut down version of the Office Suite, it's because there never was a version of Access for the Mac.
