MS Office 2007 - Cannot install.

Feb 16, 2007 6:37PM PST

Hi,

I have recently been attempting to install a copy of Micrsoft Office 2007 on my PC however, whenever the setup attempts to run the setup window appear but then an error message appears.

The message says that Microsoft Office 2007 is not an upgrade package and that I must remove all other instances of the trial version of Microsoft Office 2007 and any beta tests. And it says once I have completed the above request I will then be able to intall Office 2007.

I had used the Beta test version prior to this. And I uninstalled it a few weeks ago. But...Office 07 still isn't allowing me to install it. I removed everything Office that I could find on my PC and it still isn't letting me install.

I installed it on my laptop which runs XP Home edition and it worked perfectly fine on that. But my PC which has had the Beta version on it before just isn't letting me install it.

Operating system is: XP Home.
Attempting to install: Microsoft Office 2007.

If anyone can help please post any suggestions.

Thanks in advance.

Ben Derrick.

Try this.

Type that error message exactly into google.com See if others have this issue and how they fixed it. I'd look for you but you didn't supply the exact error message.

In another discussion on this board Microsoft was called and they supplied the owner more steps to perform.

Please remember to supply "error messages" when posting.

Error message
Feb 17, 2007 6:15AM PST

Well yes I did read that post. And I'm trying to find a solution, currently, that doesn't involve reformatting my computer.

Here's the error message:

Setup is unable to proceed due to the following error(s):
The 2007 Microsoft Office system does not support upgrading from a prerelease version of the 2007 Microsoft Office system. You must first uninstall any prerelease versions of the 2007 Microsoft Office system products and associated technologies.
Correct the issue(s) listed above and re-run setup.

---
And that's what appears when I first try to run setup. Before anything else happens. And when I click okay, setup is terminated and I'm back to sqaure one.

I'll try google answers but any help would be very much appreciated.

Thanks.

Oh...

I tried the google thing and I found an answer, on the Microsoft website can you believe haha. For exactly this problem.

The answer says the following:

The Office 2003 Web Components feature installed with Office 2007 Beta2 causes the Office 2007 product to block its installation. Users should use Add Remove Programs in the Windows Control Panel to Remove the Office 2003 Web Components, and then install the final Office 2007 product.
---

Now I do not have this "Office 2003 Web Components" in my computer. I have looked under the 'Add Remove Programs' list in the Control Panel and it's not there. I either have removed it when I tried to get rid of everything "Office" on my PC and not noticed. Or it's just not there full stop. Either way it's not present and MS Office 2007 still isn't installing. Still the same message. So still open for any suggestions.

Thanks.

Oh okay. Now I'm sorry for posting so many times, it's like my stream of conciousness on here now lol. But I have found the solution! It works! I love this guy! It's fabulous lol. If anyone is having this problem, then visit this site:

http://www.hanselman.com/blog/Office2007WontUpgradeFromAPrereleaseVersionOfThe2007OfficeSystemOffice2007SetupSpelunking.aspx

and read what he did, download the Uninstall program and do what he did and it works. Really works. Office is installing smoothly as I type here haha.

Hope it works for anyone else with this problem. However thank you for your help bob. I wouldn't have found that without your suggestion!

Thanks.

But I hope you see the power of supplying the error message. Even better if in quotes.

In closing I think you did great. I bet I won't see you standing in line at the service counter.
