although have probably already made a decision (since your post was 3 months ago and all) I just wanted to say if you haven't - DO NOT PURCHASE THE FL 300 BY MPIO - ITS JUNK.
I need to buy an MP3 player/voice recorder combo as a gift and know little of the devices. Features I've seen so far that I think are important are:
- USB chargable (a plus, not a must)
- Use of flash as a general storage device (like a USB key)
- Voice recording good enough to legibly record a conversation or an academic talk - i.e. within 12 feet or so (a must)
Other than that, it would be nice if the rest of the device were well-done as well - good sound quality, easy to use, elegant.
I'm drawn to the MPIOs for their elegance, the FY400 in particular, but I've have been unable to really find reviews of that one. A Tom's Hardware review of the FY300 mentioned that the voice recording was only good for notes to self, not conversations (which is a must), so I am wary of the FY400.
If anyone has used any of these device or knows something about them and can comment/offer advice, that would be great.
I'm also looking at:
Mushkin 512MB MP3 Player/Flash drive
Anything else I haven't heard of yet that meets my reqs.
Thanks a bunch!
