MPEG4 plays on a Windows PC, but not a Mac
I encoded some MPEG4 files for a podcast using Elecard Mobile Converter software. When someone plays the files from iTunes on a Windows PC, the files are viewable with no problems. However, when someone tries to view the same files from iTunes on a Mac, the screen is green and you can only hear the audio. I'm sure it's a missing codec of some sort, but not sure exactly what. Any ideas? Thanks for any feedback...

Have you tried to play this MPEG4

in any other program, like VLC.

I find that if it does not run in VLC then there is definitely something wrong with it.

As you know, iTunes (Windows or Mac) should play MPEG4 files without any problem. Have you tried re-encoding them with another piece of software?

Sorry for the delay

It worked in VLC - so I think we're okay there. I did re-encode using the absolute most recent version of the software and now the file is (apparently) viewable. Not quite sure why there would be a problem. If an older codec was used to encode (by a matter of months), I would think an updated OS should be able to play the file regardless. Am I off base in assuming that?

probably not. There may have been some tiny screwup in the original encoding that was not apparent in Windows but was a big deal on the Mac. It happens.

Glad you got it to work finally
