MP3 with AM/FM Tuner

Nov 16, 2005 10:54PM PST

Anyone seen a portable mp3 player with both an AM and FM tuner in a small form factor, i.e. not a cd form factor? Been searching for awhile with no luck.

Sansa Not the One

Just checked Sandisk online and PC Connection and confirmed that unfortunately does not really have a AM tuner. Thank you very searching. If anyone else has any other suggestions - they would be appreciated. Need to get this as a gift for someone who has to have sports radio available. Thanks.

The reason why AM is rare.

It's the AM antenna is unaesthetic to the design. You can find CD Walkman size MP3 players with AM/FM.

Sorry about that model. The web page claims AM, but apparently it's just inaccurate.

Radio Shack has many nice radios. Get one of those.

A couple of solutions...

The MP3 player I use has built-in AM and FM recording - it has the receivers built-in. You can listen, or listen/record. The quality is dependant upon the radio waves (physical orientation, signal strength, the normal radio issues). If I want a real quality AM recording, I will set up my CC Crane "CC Radio Plus", with a TERK external antenna, and run the LINE OUT into my MP3 recorder (the "Pogo Radio Yourway LX", with a 1 Gig card, see my website for more information: http://users.adelphia.net/~rschoolf/mp3loader.htm ). I can turn on the timer built-in to the Pogo to start recording at the desired time. Also, I can record ANYTHING on the Pogo - Podcasts, songs from my albums, my cassettes, my kids, interviews, etc. In fact, I bought AND RETURNED a iPod Video, recently, preferring the user experience I get from the Pogo. Now, don't get me wrong, Apple is geared for certain people, and they have their iTunes interface, good or bad, but I wanted more control of my files, move 'em to a machine where I want 'em, delete content with having to use iTunes. Seriously, folks should re-think iPods at this stage. The iPod hardware is top-quality! Beautiful execution. But iTunes, the incompatible video formats, the inability of creating folders for content, and the lack of Windows direct-access drive support caused me to recoup my $325.00 from Apple!

I re-bought the iPod!
Nov 30, 2005 10:37AM PST

I got the fever for the iPod Video - I could not buy a 3 or 4 G iPod for less than $299 - the price of a 5G. So i re-bought the 5G iPod, to review the "user experience", as compared to my "Pogo Radio Yourway LX" (mentioned at my web site http://users.adelphia.net/~rschoolf/mp3loader.htm ) - and NOW I DIG AND RESPECT the iPod device - especially after a LOT OF TRAINING of and learning of iTunes. I found iTunes NOT EASY to understand, even for an experienced software developer. I checked out 5 BOOKS FROM THE LIBRARY to finally GET the iTunes interface.

So far (a couple of weeks of working with iTunes, and iPodder - [Juice Receiver], I have decided to SERIOUSLY try the iTunes podcatcher method, over JUICE RECEIVER - for now. But there I still have RESERVASTIONS. I have always had rservation of using iTunes - as many do - come on - let's think of a better way. There serious bugs in iTunes. We need to pedition for resolutions to the bugs in iTunes regarding Podcasting.

So, I am reviewing ways to improve the iTunes Podcast experience, with my program "Robert's MP3 Loader" (for non-iPod MP3 players, currently...). I'm looking for ways to streamline and make foolproof the "process of loading Podcasts on the player, and then managing (deleting) the played Podcasts".

Please send me e-mail at rschoolf@gmail.com if you have any ideas or suggestions.
