mp3 track too long to burn to CD

I downloaded an mp3 audiobook that is too large to burn to a regular CD. I use Nero 5 Burning Rom, and when I try to split the track, it won't allow it: message says, (track is too long to fit on CD).
A friend suggested purchasing MusicMatch Jukebox Plus, because of the "SmartSplit" option. This isn't working either because after many tries, I found out it won't split mp3 tracks. I'm a novice at this, but I also tried converting the file to different format (wav)& then splitting it, but that didn't work either.
My operating system is Windows XP home.
Thanks for any help.

What web site has this book so I can look at the file and see what needs to be done?

It's been a awhile now, but it was probably from Audible, Fictionwise - I'm not sure, I belonged to several in the past.

Look up AUDACITY on google.com to edit the file or split it...

If you don't mind a small reduction in quality (for music; does not matter for talk, speech, etc...), you could try changing the encoding bitrate of the mp3 file. 128Kbs file re encoded to 96 Kbs will be about 3/4 of the original size.

"dB poweramp Music Convertor" a freeware prog will let you do this.

Hope this helps.

The end product they want is an AudioCD. Such are not affected by compression, but come in 74, 80 and so on number of minutes. MP3 and such can be compressed tighter, but will not affect the number of minutes when you want an AudioCD.

If its an Audio CD that is being planned, then its true that the standards cannot be changed.

The original post gave me an feeling that it was a Mp3 file.

Thanks for the info.
